A few days earlier I had sent him a message on Skype – where he remains logged in – to tell him about my graduation, hoping, perhaps naïvely, that he might finally be allowed to call me. A year ago we had made plans for my graduation. He would take time off work so we could spend this day together. Instead, I spend the day clutching my phone waiting for a call that never comes.”
